Radcliffe's Away Day Blues Continue as Play-Off Dreams Fade

Another road trip, another defeat for Radcliffe FC as their away form continues to be about as reliable as a chocolate teapot. The Boro's latest capitulation came at Worksop Town, leaving their play-off aspirations looking shakier than a Sunday league goalkeeper's knees.

If away form was currency, Radcliffe FC would be asking their mates to spot them a tenner for the bus home. The Boro's latest expedition into hostile territory ended predictably enough, with another defeat at Worksop Town that has left their play-off ambitions dangling by a thread thinner than the patience of their travelling support.

Manager Bernard Morley shuffled the deck chairs on his particular Titanic, making two changes to the starting eleven that had previously faced Kidderminster Harriers in what can generously be described as their last proper outing - that match having been abandoned, which probably counts as a result by Radcliffe's recent away standards. In came Jon Taylor and Luke Partington, presumably in the hope that fresh legs might finally discover the secret to picking up points on the road.

Spoiler alert: they didn't.

The defeat at Worksop represents yet another chapter in what's becoming a rather depressing away day anthology for Radcliffe supporters. While home comforts clearly suit the Boro just fine, travelling anywhere beyond their own postcode appears to trigger some sort of footballing amnesia that would make a medical textbook.

Morley's tactical tweaks, bringing in Taylor and Partington, suggested he recognised something needed changing after the abandoned Kidderminster encounter. Whether it was formation, personnel, or simply crossing his fingers harder, the alterations failed to address the fundamental issue: Radcliffe's apparent inability to function when playing in front of crowds who don't know the words to their songs.

For Worksop Town, hosting a team with Radcliffe's away record must have felt like Christmas morning. There's nothing quite like welcoming visitors who arrive with all the menace of a strongly-worded letter, and the home side duly capitalised on their guests' generosity.

The implications for Radcliffe's season are becoming increasingly stark. Play-off contenders are supposed to grind out results in difficult circumstances, not gift-wrap points for their hosts with the consistency of a well-oiled machine. If the Boro harbour genuine ambitions of extending their campaign beyond the regular season, they'll need to discover some away form from somewhere - preferably before their supporters start planning alternative weekend activities.

With each passing away defeat, those play-off spots drift a little further from reach, like the last bus home after another disappointing road trip.
